In its second year as a University of Washington “Dawg Daze” featured event, University Way NE (the AVE) in the U District of Seattle welcomes/welcomes back 10,000 new students and many returning students/faculty/staff to our community with the sidewalk event AVEventure. Merchants donate prizes for a raffle, and all sponsors and business participants are provided with a unique rubber stamp to mark attendee passports (making them elligible to win those raffle prizes). Businesses offer specials and give-aways, conduct contests, provide samples and tastings, organize fashion shows, and display their wares. In addition, many nonprofit and community groups display tables with information about their services in the University District.

The Greater University Chamber of Commerce produces this event in collaboration with several University of Washington departments (First Year Programs, Carlson Leadership Center, Regional Affairs) local merchants and community volunteers as the closing event for Dawg Daze. The event is held on the first Friday evening of fall classes. All activities take place on the sidewalk or inside local businesses from 4-7 PM on Friday, September 26th, 2008.

There is a unique opportunity for businesses not located on the AVE to reach this population by becoming a sponsor. We have thirty (30) 8’x8’ spaces complete with a canopy, table & 2 chairs. They are represented in the graphic to the left by gold squares. We also have two main stages (blue starbursts) where sponsors can display their company’s name and logo on a banner (provided by the event). If you would like to host a smaller music venue, these locations are marked on the map as green starbursts.

Our outreach for this event is focused. We produce an 11x17 inch full color map of the event WITH ALL THE PARTICIPANTS and insert 10,000 copies into the UW Daily student newspaper the day before the event. We provide window posters to over 200 local merchants. Dawg Daze includes our event in all of their information sessions with new students. Local newspapers list the event on their calendars. The event is open to the general public as well, and it is - after all - Friday night on the AVE. We expect a crowd and invite you to consider how you can get involved.

This is a permitted Seattle event and security is provided by volunteer ambassadors from the community, the UW, and the Seattle Police Department.
