The Greater University Chamber of Commerce and the 42nd Annual U District StreetFair are pleased to introduce this year’s poster artist:

RHEANNON RICE

I began attending the Sanctuary Art Center at age sixteen in 2004. When I first came to the art center, I was homeless and struggling to stay in high school. The Sanctuary Art Center provided me with the ability to invest myself in art as much as I wanted to, and gave me the support I needed to feel confident in pursuing the arts as a profession.  I am now studying fine art and two-dimensional animation as a senior at The Evergreen State College. I still remain very closely connected to the Sanctuary Art Center because it is still a place where I receive support and inspiration.

I let art be my guiding force through life.  I enjoy constantly learning new forms of art from animation to instillation. I have always been drawn to colored pencil and acrylic paint. I try to make images that lure people into a fantastical scene with vivid colors, strong emotional expressions on characters, and symbology that gives the image context.

FUNDRAISER FOR JAPAN RELIEF

This year as we added a third main stage on NE 42nd St at Brooklyn, the Emerald City Musicians Network proposed a special fundraiser in partnership with our local Red Cross and the UW Japanese Student Association to collect donations for the relief effort for Japan. This will be in the form of both monetary donation in their booth next to the stage on NE 42nd St, and also a silent auction. Many national bands have participated in this effort, as well as vendors and performers at this year's StreetFair. Please stop by and show your support and bid on some very special items.
